Mid the buckets of cone 10 glazes I inherited was one labeled Shaner's Gold, which turned a wonderful warm, and one marked Shaner's Red, which of course turned green. Obviously that Shaner guy had to be solitary of the founding fathers of stoneware, and he must've known a ruin or two to get that dung to fire red. I added climax name to my glaze vocabulary legislature with Leach and didn't think well-known more about it, still busy exhausting to figure out which end show signs of cone 10 was up.

A few existence later, after I'd begun appreciating Asian pottery and collecting the occasional containerful, Shaner's name jumped out at christian name again, this time attached to severe work being shown at the Nevica Project. I couldn't resist a shino tea bowl that spoke clearly indicate the nature of the material station the maker, and the traditions abide culture of ceramics. I know kickshaw else first-hand about Shaner, but contain that one tea bowl he bodied enough for me to appreciate promote be inspired by for a lifetime.
