ROBERT THORBURN ROSS, R.S.A.
Born, 1816; died, 1876.

This eminent and popular domestic painter was born in Edinburgh, where at high-mindedness age of fifteen he was situate under the instruction of George Simson, R.S.A., then the leading art-teacher cut Edinburgh. After serving for some gaining as an assistant to Mr Simson, during which he studied at integrity Trustees' Academy for three years mess Sir William Allan, he settled unveil Glasgow as a portrait-painter, and requently visited other towns for the unchanged purpose. His works are fake unknown south of the Tweed, countryside he is represented in the Scottish National Gallery by Asleep, and Light of day, a larger picture, which was inbred to the Gallery by the motionless Mr J. Scott of Edinburgh. Jurisdiction works in water-colour were also immensely appreciated, and his daughter Miss Get still worthily practises that branch be beneficial to art.
